Luxury Vinyl Plank Buying Tips
Vinyl plank floors come in a variety of styles, sizes, and finishes. One of the most popular flooring options, not just vinyl flooring, is Luxury Vinyl Planks. Luxury Vinyl Plank floors have gained in popularity due to it being moisture and mildew resistant allowing it to be installed in moisture rich areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. Vinyl makes for the perfect flooring option in high traffic areas such as foyers or living areas due to it’s durable construction. Luxury Vinyl Plank floors are designed for easy installation allowing homeowners to save money by doing the installation themselves.
The look of hardwood with the durability of vinyl
Luxury Vinyl Planks are designed to mimic the look of solid hardwood, manufactured four or six inches wide by three or four feet long, planks using a tongue and grove system. Vinyl planks come in a variety of thicknesses starting at about 2 millimeters with the cheaper floors all the way to 8 millimeters for top of the line floors. In medium to high traffic areas we would recommend a minimum thickness of 4 mm, planks with added cushioning are warmer and quieter.
When shopping for vinyl plank; look at the warranty, core construction, wear level, and attached underlayment before making a final decision. If durability is your primary concern, look for vinyl planks with the highest wear layers.
